Audio Love - For Narrative Podcast Audio Lovers

This is so totally me...

Hey Reader,

This morning my watch notified me that my sister completed a run, so I sent her a bicep muscle emoji đź’Ş

Here’s how she replied:

Lazy dog on treadmill from Tenor

My sister can make me laugh-out-loud, fall-off-a-chair while I wait for the tears to flow and the snot to run down my face. She can be that funny.

I spent much longer watching this gif cycle than I really needed to….somehow the grainy video of this random dog was cheering me up.

But I think I was also feeling a bit guilty, because I’ve been that dog too...one-pawing the treadmill, with your inbox. Kinda there, but not really putting in the miles.

I bet this dog also goes for long runs, and I bet she couldn’t resist chasing squirrels up a tree, or run full out on a big field of grass.

Maybe I’m connecting because I’ve been doing all of these things too. Long long runs with my editing software….hours and hours of listening and editing, cutting and re-cutting. Also, chasing new leads and new ideas up a tree, and then standing at the trunk staring up, wondering where they went...

Perhaps I should stop apologizing, but I’m Canadian, and I can’t help myself. Sorry.

And then, no doubt this dog curls up at the feet of her owners, and snores while offering tons of love.

While I can't curl up next to your feet, I've got love to give.

One day, on an island far away in Antarctica, I was wandering around with Rachelle Balez and Prof. Susan Scott, when a curious little penguin decided to drop by and audition for the role of cutest penguin.

Think of me as a Eurovision judge, and this Gentoo the contestant.

Aaannnd....she won. But the cutest thing, I swear she said "Thank you."

Audio Love 1

Listen right until the end....and tell me if you agree that she says "thank you."

Starting this week, each Tuesday, just for my newsletter subscribers, I’m going to send you some audio love. These clips won’t appear anywhere on the podcast, they're just here for your own little bit of love.

Click on that photo, up there👆, which will take you to my website, where you can click that Play button ▶️ to listen to this short bit.

Arg, the rules of email currently dictate that I can't embed sound in an email, so click this photo to link you out to hear the audio love.

Hope you enjoy listening….hit reply to tell some love back to me!

Best,

p.s. This doesn't mean you're subscribed...to do that, for 🍎 here, or Spotify here.

p.p.s. Know someone who also wants Audio Love? Send them here

Hey there Reader, Today I've had a few "knew it" moments. And to hear that correctly along with a visual, channel the meme "Nailed it!" But then point your finger down to the table and slowly tap, and the words to yourself. First knew it moment: Sarah Polley's film Women Talking did get the Best Picture nomination today, adapted from a novel by the same name, by another stellar Canadian writer Miriam Toews (Polley also nabbed a nom for Best Adapted Screenplay). Last September I was gifted a...

Dear Reader, I'll get to the sound stuff, but today I want to open with a scene from another sense: smell...and offer a small piece of advice surrounding this. Ostensibly, I write this newsletter to muse about all things audio (sound, and voice, words). And because you read it (thank you!) it indulges me to ascribe some sort of meaning to what ever comes to mind, which perhaps amounts to a potpourri of words about noise. Sunday night my husband and I were making dinner for the mothers (both...

Dear Reader, Happy Antarctica Day! Which is another way of saying let’s celebrate Peace and Science….the founding principles of that continent. In a year where Russia invaded Ukraine, remembering Antarctica as a continent that has never been at war, has no army, possesses no nuclear weapons, is not owned by anyone, and whose primary residents are of two kinds: scientists, and penguins…feels even more prescient. Over these last few years since I’ve been to this frozen, faraway place, I’ve...
